About Countdown Timer
Pick any date and time and get a live countdown in days, hours, minutes and seconds, updating every second in your browser. Useful for a wedding, a flight, a deadline, an exam or any date you want to watch approach. Three quick-start buttons cover the common cases — one hour from now, this time tomorrow, or next New Year — or set your own date and an optional label ("Diwali", "the flight to Delhi"). Every countdown gets a shareable link that encodes the date and label in the URL itself, so pasting it into a chat or email opens the same countdown for whoever clicks it — no account, no server, nothing saved. If the date has already passed, it switches automatically to show how long ago that was instead of showing a nonsensical negative countdown.
How to use it
- Enter a date and time, and optionally a short label for what you are counting down to.
- Click "Start countdown" — or use one of the quick buttons for an hour, a day, or next New Year.
- Click "Copy link" to get a URL that opens the same live countdown for anyone you send it to.
Frequently asked questions
Does the countdown keep running if I close the tab?
No — it is calculated live in your browser from your device's clock, so nothing runs in the background. Reopen the page (or the shareable link) and it picks up exactly where it should be, because the target date, not a running timer, is what gets saved.
What time zone does it use?
Your device's local time zone, both for the date/time you enter and for anyone who opens your shared link on their own device — so the countdown always matches wall-clock time wherever it is opened, rather than everyone seeing the same absolute instant translated oddly across zones.
What happens if the date has already passed?
The countdown switches to counting up instead, showing how long ago that date was, rather than showing a confusing negative number.
Is anything saved or sent to a server?
No. The date and label live only in the URL you choose to copy and share — there is no account, database or tracking of what you count down to.
